Multidisciplinary Artist,Teacher,& Researcher
I'm a multidisciplinary artist who works at the intersection of ancestry and contemporary art. I transform abstract family stories into tangible symbols. In my "Carriers of Memory" project, I create sculptures and boxes that represent the complexity of personal identity through their physical and metaphorical forms. I use materials like rusty metal, soft fabrics, and found wood to create textures and colors that reflect the unique history and location of a family.
As a researcher, I dive deep into the archives of family history. I use oral stories and primary source materials to inform my creative process. It's not just about genealogy, it's about understanding how historical events, migration patterns, and personal belongings shape our identities today.
In my research, I meticulously document everything I find. I want to ensure that my final project is not only a creative expression but also a valuable source of historical knowledge.
As a teacher, I'm all about the junior cycle philosophy of taking an idea from concept to reality. I help students go from family research to creating high-quality pieces in 3D. I teach them technical skills like precision construction and how to curate their work professionally. This empowers them to make and present well-researched art pieces that show their personal heritage and appreciation for the art process.
With this interdisciplinary approach, we create a space where students can actively reconstruct history through art. We make sure their personal identity is remembered and passed down to future generations.
Curriculum Project
Welcome to the Curriculum Project: Exploring History Through Art! This innovative project invites students to delve into their family history and identity through a captivating blend of artistic expression and research. By utilizing techniques such as mixed media, collage, and cyanotype, students will uncover and bring to life hidden memories that shape who they are. This journey not only enhances their understanding of personal identity but also highlights the powerful role of art in conveying emotions and ideas, fostering a rich and meaningful learning experience.
